GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: it's up to you to bring the gun. ) It was a beautiful day. Especially beautiful for the dark city of Eden. Water glittered like diamonds in the fountain of the town square. For once, everything was quiet. Aside from the splash of the fountain and the noise of birds, it was almost silent. Sun bathed everything in warm light.
Laying on the wide rim of the fountain was a girl. Sunlight lit her bubblegum pink hair up, turning it a shade bright enough to be a fresh bloomed flower. Her skin glowed, impossibly smooth and soft. Even her white sundress glimmered, nearly see-through in the bright light. Her feet were bare, though a small pair of ballet flats lay at the base of the fountain.
The girl looked exactly like what she was; an angel.
Iris Ambriel, angel of truth, was sleeping. In the middle of the town square. She was using her arms as pillows and her legs were curled up. The angel made a cute picture, sweet as the cotton candy that was so similar to her hair. The strap of her sundress fell low on her arm, unnoticed.
It was endearing. And stupid. Eden was, by no means, a safe city. It spoke volumes about Iris's innocence that the angel would let herself fall asleep in the middle of it. So unguarded and vulnerable. Iris really had no notion of danger.
It was exactly the sort of stunt that Evander would certainly scold her for, if he were to see. Iris was always making silly mistakes. She was a silly angel. These thoughts didn't register in her mind as she quietly slept.
Nearly an hour before, Iris had been wandering about by herself (another thing the angel wasn't suppose to do). It had been such a lovely day, she just couldn't stay in the dusty press building, despite rules. The sun had warmed her bare shoulders as she looked around. Nothing suspicious, nothing bad. Everybody seemed to be enjoying the day in a peaceful way.
When she had come upon the fountain, Iris had rushed to it like a child. The water was bright and clear, irresistible really. She ran her fingers through it, admiring it's cool feel. Before long, the sun began to make the silly angel sleepy. And, being so comfortable by the fountain, Iris curled up and went to sleep there. The splashing of the fountain made it all the easier.
After an hour, Iris showed no sign of stirring. Clearly, the angel was too at ease to wake. Unfortunately, she was supposed to have a self defense meeting with the head of Eden's Rebirth. A meeting she was already late for.

Put simply, Evander was fuming. Unfortunately for the world, nothing Evander did or felt could really be quite so simple. The man wasn't fuming he was furious. He was livid. He was fed up with this ridiculous bullshit and he had no intentions of letting anyone think they could get away with it. Especially not that pathetic excuse for a thing that Ambriel was.
Too many times that wisp of a girl had fluttered off somewhere when she was supposed to be working and too many times Evander felt like he had to save her ass. It was only a big fat 'go figure' that the girl decided to skip out on her self-defense meeting. Evander wasn't even too keen on helping Ambriel because she was just so frustrating and annoying, but it wouldn't have been very angelic of him to just let her get killed one day.
Pistol in one hand and a assault rifle in his other, Evander soared over the city in search of the pink-headed flake with every intention of scolding the shit out of her. If Ambriel ever missed another meeting after today then surely there wouldn't be anything he could do to snap the girl in line. The assault rifle was sure to startle her into taking self-defense seriously, but the pistol was the only thing Evander would be able to start training her with. After all, it was foolish to give her a gun at all, but to give her an assault rifle would be wishing harm upon himself.
After a few long moments flapping about Eden rather conspicuously, Evander knew he was probably going about finding Ambriel wrong. A grunt of frustration escaped the angel as he spiraled down to take a rest in the square of the city. As soon as the man's feet touched the ground he drew back in his wings and took a long deep breath. Flying felt somewhat unusual considering how often his wings were masked these days. But now was no time to waste thinking about that, the angel thought with a determined face as he slipped the pistol back into the holder on his hip.
Being in the no-man's land of Eden was usually pretty dangerous since you could find just any type of person there so Evander pulled his assault rifle close just in case. Fully prepared, the angel nodded to himself and started to make his way deeper into the town square, coming around the building he had landed behind. Until he saw something that made his blood boil that was, and suddenly the man couldn't even hold his rifle at the ready out of shocked anger. "I should have fucking known," The man growled.
Pink hair shimmering in the sunlight, Ambriel was there asleep at the fountain. Asleep in the middle of possibly one of the most dangerous places in all of Eden. Somehow it wasn't terribly surprising to find her doing this considering it was the exact opposite of what she was supposed to be doing, learning how to defend herself. While the first thought was that Evander would wake her with large booming shouts of scolding, he decided he had a much better and more effective way of getting the little slacker up.
Raising his rifle to the sky, Evander hardened his expression and just began firing. If the sound of a rifle firing wildly wouldn't wake the kid up he might as well kill her right there and then. Could be considered more humane in the long run.

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: it's up to you to bring the gun. ) Gun fire. Loud. Right near her.
Iris woke with a start, her wings flaring into existence in a bright flash. The silly angel rolled off the fountain rim and into the water, looking shocked. Unaware of who was firing at her and why, she wrapped her wings around herself. Those large lavender wings covered her small frame easily and magic flared from them. It was a shield and a good one too. Strong, fast, or tough Iris was not. But the girl knew her way around her abilities better than most.
Tense but alert, Ambriel peeked out from behind her wings and cast about with her empathy. Nothing. Nothing. And then she felt the man who was making the noise. Her wings dropped and her face lit up with a smile. The petite angel stood in the fountain, beaming.
"Evander!" Iris's smile was like a sunrise. She liked Evander, for all of his gruffness. And he was the boss after all. She raised one pink eyebrow as she spied his gun, "Uh, why are you shooting at air? Isn't that a waste of ammo? I don't think the air can feel it. Did the air make you mad?"
With dripping hands, the innocent angel reached back to wring out her long, bubblegum hair. She looked confused but happy. It was a frequent expression of hers. When her hair was dry enough by her standards, Iris tied it back and out of the way. Her dress was beyond hope, it's white clothe and lace trim soaked. Briefly, the angel check her wrist to make sure her stone was still there. Satisfied, she stepped up unto the rim of the fountain and then to the ground. Her large wings vanished as she did so, masked once more.
Next to her, she spied her shoes. Luckily they were still dry. With a pleased smile, she reached down and grabbed them. From inside of one, she pulled out a big flower clip. It was girly and frivolous, just Iris's type of thing. She pinned it in her hair, partially to keep the dripping strands out of her face.

For the love of all the holy things scattered throughout the universe, Evander didn't think he could lose any more respect for the child-like angel. Somehow, painful as it always was, Ambriel shattered Evander's expectations on the cap of ridiculousness and rocketed herself to new astounding highs of foolishness. The angel expected her to jump up and perhaps scream, but protect herself in a typical manner.
Instead the girl managed to launch herself into the fountain and throw up her wing defense hastily. At least she put out her wings, but it still just made Evander shake his head in utter astonishment. That wouldn't be the end of his frustrations though of course, because something about Ambriel made her the perfect weapon against Evander. The angel knew this must have been God punishing him for being so bastardly. Damn God for being so... so... teachy.
There wasn't even a proper word for how Evander felt about that whole situation. To take his attention away from that issue the foolish girl before him began to talk, suddenly utterly calm. Did she just... ask that? Evander's eyebrow twitched and the corners of his mouth turned down. As much as he wanted to just jump straight in to his long ranting scold, there was just a long moment where he was too dumbfounded to even try.
The long moment transformed into a string of long moments as he watched Ambriel wring out her hair, go to her shoes, and be annoyingly... cutesy. Her utter lack of concern was infuriating, so Evander silently swore he would make this girl realize by the end of the day. That or he'd just make her cry. Either outcome was something he was entirely okay with at the moment.
Evander lowered his rifle and got the most serious look on his face as he strode closer to the smaller angel. Once he was close enough the man pulled back up his weapon and pointed it directly in the center of Ambriel's forhead. Deadly serious he said, "I killed you, Ambriel. I killed you just now and you are dead. Useless to everyone. Rotting in the city square." And as much as Evander's trigger finger really just itched he lowered his weapon once more and let out a sigh.
"You don't even realize it and that's enough to make me want to shoot my own brains out. You ditched meeting with me where you would learn how to defend yourself to nap in the middle of the city," The way the man spoke made it seem like even he didn't believe what he was saying. "Are you just not realizing where you're living now? Because if I ever fucking catch you pulling shit like this again I might aim next time."

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: it's up to you to bring the gun. ) "Aim?" Ambriel, angel of truth, was not the sharpest tool in the shed though she was certainly the sweetest cookie of the batch. Iris smiled, unfazed by a gun to the head, "I thought you were aiming at the air. You shouldn't shoot without aiming. You said that once I think. Or maybe that was somebody else..."
The young angel's trust was limitless and ridiculous. She trusted her angelic leader completely and trusted others nearly as much. Such was the life of such an ideal angel as Iris Ambriel. She really was everything light and love. Though, in the harsh world of Eden, that wasn't always a desirable quality.
With a cute wrinkle of her nose, Iris tried to dry out her dress in vain, "I know, Evander. I'm sorry. It was so warm and pretty," she gave up the attempt and just smiled brightly at the older angel, "I promise I won't do it again. It's dangerous and stuff." The angel wouldn't fall asleep on the fountain again. A promise was a promise. But she just couldn't help being silly. It was how God had made her.
Silently, Iris curled her bare toes, thankful for the warm sun. The pond had been cold and their was a slight breeze. Knowing Evander would just be more mad about it, she kept still and resisted the urge to rub warmth into her arms. She knew she'd be dry soon enough and then she wouldn't be cold anymore. It was just a matter of time.
With a frown, Ambriel glanced about for a clock, "Was I really late? I'm sorry. I only wanted to rest in the sun for a bit. It's hardly ever sunny here..." The angel of truth trailed off, looking a tad forlorn. In truth, Iris missed heaven and it's brightness and laughter. Eden was a far cry from happy or cheerful.
Guilt filled her big blue eyes as she looked up at Evander, "But still, I shouldn't have fallen asleep. I did promise to get lessons." Curiously, she eyed the gun in his hand. It was big and loud. Iris was sure the leader wouldn't let her shoot it but maybe... "Is that the gun I'm going to learn about?" Hopefully, she smiled up at the older angel, though not too hopefully.

The complete oblivious way that Ambriel responded was really enough to send Evander over the edge, as if he wasn't yet. Somehow the way that the little angel could just trust so easily and never doubt even in the most obvious of dark situations just drove Evander mad. Punishment for his sinning, lesson for his lack of heart. Whatever the case was, the man just hoped he didn't break and kill the little angel in cold blood. If he did that he was pretty sure he wouldn't be an angel anymore. There was some detail around there about murder being a pretty big no-no.
Stern face all throughout, Evander watched Ambriel try to dry off her dress as she began an apology. The corner of his mouth continued to twitch in frustration as he watched her just smiling like a fool. It's dangerous and stuff. Such a horrific brushing off of the matter like Evander had never seen before. The one thing that the angel couldn't understand out of it all was why in the world God would risk letting such a flake get hurt. Surely he knew what she was like considering he created her. God would have realized that she'd get hurt wouldn't he?
It never helped Evander to think about God and his plans. The man would never understand and he probably wasn't ever meant to. No one could ever get around God's wishes when it came right now to it. Save maybe devils, but that's what Evander was in Eden for in the first place. The gun suddenly felt a little heavier in his hand, as if in reply to the need for violence, so the angel sighed slightly and slipped the gun from one hand to the other.
During his little though process the angel seemed to be doing something, observing the sunlight or whatever. He stared for a long moment trying to absorb what the girl was saying now. Were you really late?
Evander asked himself silently. Why yes. Yes you were quite fucking late. Am I going to tell you just how late you are? Fucking no. Why you ask? Oh funny you should be curious. Because you'll cry or some shit. I'm not in the mood for that at all. Evander couldn't contain his loud single laugh when Ambriel asked if the rifle was the gun she was going to learn about. As if she could be trusted with such a powerful weapon. She couldn't even be trusted with a slingshot as far as Evander was concerned. " Hell no I'm not starting you off with a rifle! These guys give a lot of kickback when you fire them and god knows after a single shot you'd be sprawled out on the floor whimpering that it hurt you." The angel instead clicked on the straps so he could wear the rifle across his back before he pulled out the weapon she'd actually start with. " I'll regret this I'm sure, but this is what I'm going to teach you with," Evander muttered as he pulled the pistol from the holster on his hip. The tiny gun wasn't exactly his style, as must guns weren't, but it was probably one of the simplest weapons to use and simple was the only bet when dealing with Ambriel. " You've seen pistols before right? Simplistic small little guns, but dangerous if you don't use it right. That's why I need to make sure you know how to use it right." It was probably too soon to have Ambriel really handling a weapon seriously, but Evander needed her to know how it felt to have a gun in her hand. Nervously he made sure the safety was on before he held it out to her. " Don't be stupid with this. It's a serious fucking weapon. Just hold it and get a feel for how much it weighs, what it feels like in your hand." Ohhh Evander had a very unsettled feeling in the pit of his stomach.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: oops. ) Iris Ambriel had no idea how much she frustrated her fellow angel. She didn't really get that, to a hardened veteran like Evander, her innocence was infuriating. Iris just didn't get danger and she didn't understand how serious Eden was. It was probably better that way, since she was there to be God's forgiveness. At least, that was what he had told her. Ambriel, angel of truth, was there so that the humans could be saved. Their souls, their bodies, Iris was in charge of keeping them whole and in God's hands.
Really, nobody could know why God had sent such a silly angel. Ambriel was really a children's angel. Before Eden, she was often sent on brief missions to answer the prayers of the pure at heart. As a result, Iris was the purest of them all. Perhaps that was how she had even survived that long in Eden. Her pureness was just repulsive to the corrupt devils. Perhaps they unknowingly avoided her bright light. Though Iris would never know because she just didn't think about those things.
Her cute little face deadly serious, Iris accepted the gun carefully, trying not to look excited. Evander never let her touch dangerous things. This was a big step for the innocent angel and she didn't want to mess it up. Though, doubtless, she would somehow.
The little black gun felt cold in her small hands. It was heavy and mean looking but Iris liked it none the less. It looked tough. Tough like Evander. Sky blue eyes peaked up at the other angel curiously, subtly. Iris admired her angelic leader and his serious ways. He was tough and strong in ways that she never would be. But he was so angry all the time. The angel of truth decided that, after this, she would pick him some flowers. Flowers made everybody happy.
Iris didn't even realize she had turned her attention from the weapon in her soft hands. Frowning slightly, she looked back down at it. She kind of guessed how it must work. She held it like that... Aiming it at the ground in a lax sort of manner, Iris cupped the gun with both hands. When nothing happened, the young angel lifted it to her face to study it. Maybe it was broken.
Spying a little switch, Iris grinned. She obviously needed to turn it on! Guns were so simple. Flipping the safety to the off position, Iris turned the gun around to examine it. Everything looked in order except... "What's this?" Pressing her thumb to the curved piece of metal, Iris accidentally fired the gun. BANG. A bullet shot from the barrel that she was holding aimed on a slant towards the ground.
Straight into Evander's left foot.
"Oh my lord!" With a start, Ambriel dropped the gun on the fountain rim and hurried to kneel next to Evander, "I am so sorry! Here, let me." Looking unhappy, Iris examined the wounded foot as purple light flared around her hands. It wasn't a serious wound but that really had to hurt...

It didn't take more than a few moments for Evander to entirely regret his choice. Just the way that Ambriel took up the weapon, the way her eyes were trying so hard to contain her excitement, taught Evander a valuable lesson. The lesson of never letting that ridiculous excuse for an angel touch anything remotely dangerous ever again. A bit long winded, but it was an important lesson none-the-less.
The man rubbed his temples as he thought about how annoying it was that even he was starting to think about 'lessons learned'. It didn't matter that he was being a sarcastic prick in his own mind about it, it was still annoying as fuck. To make up for it the man ranted and raved, his mind sputtering out all the curse words he could ever want for. Too bad he did it silently though because he was sure some of the words were things that Ambriel had never heard before and her confused stare might have made him feel a little better.
It was still just irritating to watch the girl handle the pistol in such an awkward way. At first it almost seemed like she thought it was made or glass or something, but then she really started to investigate. A long sigh preceded a head shake and an exhausted closing of his eyes. "Don't hold it like it's some kind of limp noodle. Dear lord always pay attention to where you're point-" Evander stopped when he heard the girl ask "What's this" followed by a bang.
How... did I not see this coming? Evander thought, eyebrow twitching. A few silent moments of utter tension passed before Evander slowly opened his eyes and "Fucking what the hell did you do!?" It took a few moments for the searing pain to settle in to his foot, after which his utter rage couldn't be contained. Looking back to Ambriel with wide startled eyes, Evander watched the girl drop the gun in alarm before smothering him.
When the angel came over to heal him he flipped the fuck out though, stumbling back before tumbling backwards in an unbalanced show of brilliance. "Don't fucking touch me for the love of God! I can heal my own damn self!" Evander shouted and wailed as he tried to sit back up to handle his bullet wound himself. He supposed it was better it was only hit foot instead of his leg or something. It still hurt like a bitch though.
The bullet went all the way through though so at least it would be an easy enough heal. Evander placed his hand over the wound and tried to hold back his cries of pain as he started healing. It was always a little painful, but trying to heal his own wound was pretty shitty. Ambriel wouldn't be touching him though, he was still pretty pissy and didn't trust her at the moment. "God damn my fucking foot? Seriously? Don't touch another damn weapon again for the love of God."
The man whimpered slightly as he continued tending to his foot.

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: it's short bleh. ) "Don't be ridiculous," Iris's tone was deadpan, her look unamused. For once (and too late) Ambriel was serious. Silly, forgetful, innocent beyond all description she might be, but Iris knew her job and did it well. To have Evander try to heal himself, and do a bad job at it, would just not work.
The pink-haired angel smiled in her most calming way, scooting closer to Evander, "Now, let me see it." Gently but firmly, she laid one glowing hand on top of Evander's, adding her ability to his. The odd colored stone tied there fell gently between their two hands and began to shimmer. Despite any protests Evander might have raised, Iris was determined to keep healing him.
Struggling with the other angel, Iris furrowed her brows and glared at her angelic leader with sky blue eyes. The ribbon holding her long damp hair back had loosened and her bubblegum hair framed her face in a messy sort of way, "Goodness, just let me heal you!"
With a calm only the silly could manage, Ambriel took a deep breath and focused on Evander alone. Her bright eyes began to take on a purplish glow as she tapped her into Empathy. Evander's anger flared into her as she touched the other angel. Calmly, Iris started to funnel relaxation through their connection. If anybody could magically relax Evander, it would be Ambriel. Really, her only skills were healing and empathy. If she couldn't do it, nobody could.

It was really enough to piss off Evander more than he thought he could handle when Ambriel decided to be serious then of all times. When he was hurt. The man supposed that it fit her since she was the head medic, but it was still just maddening. He wanted to know why she couldn't be serious when she was holding a weapon. When he was scolding her or telling her about dangers.
God created her to be pure, not fucking stupid. The man tried to fight when he felt her hands over his, but it was hard to resist the soothing feeling of healing. That was until Evander felt a slight unsettled sensation. It didn't take long for for the angel to realize exactly what it was Ambriel was trying to pull. For a single moment he felt a relaxation settling in, but he wasn't going to let anyone fuck around with his emotions.
The healing was practically done, and as such it really freed Evander up for what he really wanted to do. Which was throw a fucking bitch fit. "It's one thing to shoot me in the fucking foot..." Evander started, slapping away Ambriel's hand in the nicest way he could (which was all he could do to not actually hit a girl). "Don't you try to root around in my fucking emotions. There's shit you don't do, and trying to tweak relaxation into me after you were foolish enough to fucking ignore my warnings and shoot me in the fucking foot. Christ Ambriel. Just fucking..."
He could hardly contain himself. The man pulled back, walking unsteadily a few paces so he didn't have to face the angel. She was small, a girl, and innocent beyond all understanding. Evander hated it. Evander knew how polluted he was, how un-angelic. It felt like God was slapping him in the face by pairing him with this girl. It had to be a test of patience if nothing else. He despised things like that.
When he didn't have to look at the girl he felt a little bit better, but he was still fuming. If anyone should have known not to pull shit like that it should have been Ambriel. In all the time that they'd been together they had got into quite a few one-sided arguments and Evander had told her over and over what was okay and what wasn't. He was damn near positive that trying to use Empathy on him was on the no list.
In such a furry the man hadn't even realize that his wings had burst out, he assumed it happened the instant he slapped Ambriel's hand away but he was too scattered to remember. The fluttering wings twitched and shook in his anger, his fists clenched at his side. "I'm tired of this Iris," Evander started softly. It was probably the first time since he had met her that he had called her by her first name and was a sign he was vastly serious. "Why can't you just be serious when I need you to be? Why do you have to fuss with stupid shit like this and..."
Evander was already regretting his words.

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: poor silly ambriel. ) Iris knew she had crossed the line. More than shooting him, more than being silly (which she couldn't help), Ambriel should have known better than to try and calm him down. It spoke volumes that she had even managed that little bit, because Evander wasn't taken easily. Iris did know better but the sight of a wound had distracted her. She had forgotten who it was and how he would respond. Iris had treated her angelic leader as she would have treated any other panicked patient and that wasn't going to fly.
The angel of truth sat on her hands on the ground, hiding the one Evander had smacked. The appearance of his wings had startled her, though it shouldn't have. Ambriel pulled her knees up and rested her chin on them as she watched Evander explode with wide, blue eyes. It was a childish position, her butt on her hands, her chin on her knees. Her dress scrunched up to reveal black shorts beneath it. If not for those shorts, her childish pose would have been inappropriate.
Evander was mad. Very mad. But that really wasn't anything new to Iris. She pondered over the other angel's temper and she listened carefully to his words. Silly though she was, the pink-haired angel understood that she probably deserved this. All the lines of his body, even his wings, were tensed with anger.
"I'm tired of this Iris." Iris? Intent, sky blue eyes studied the back of Evander's head like it was the most difficult puzzle ever created. He never called her by her first name. He only referred to her by the name humans called her. Ambriel. Sometimes it was 'you ditzy pink-haired child'. But mostly Ambriel. "Why can't you just be serious when I need you to be? Why do you have to fuss with stupid shit like this and..."
Iris Ambriel, angel of truth, couldn't lie to save her life. The words just didn't come out. But, too often, the truth wasn't what people wanted to hear. The pink-haired angel opened and closed her mouth once or twice, unsure if she should answer him. Finally, she decided she had to, "Evander... You know very well why I can't be like you. If God had wanted..." she trailed off, looking at the ground. Iris hated feeling preachy, but being God's minion had it's draw-backs, "I can heal. I can comfort. I can't fight. I'm here to give redemption, not shoot the life out of demons. Even they have souls. Even they can be saved. Too often I worry that some angels would rather just exterminate them than give them a chance."
Iris was too innocent for Eden, really. But she was there for a reason. A reason most other angels would have disagreed with. Ambriel wasn't God's vengeful fist. She was God's warm, forgiving embrace. Her creator had a very dual presence and the two angels were really the opposite sides of the spectrum.
"I'm sorry," the apology was sweet and sincere, though Iris looked rather serious, especially for her, "I am not as tough as you Evander. And I'm clumsy. I try, I really do. I don't mean to make you mad." Ambriel refused to look up from her toes. They were still bare and they made a convenient focus. If she had looked up, Evander might have seen how hard the silly angel was focusing so that she didn't cry. Iris knew that crying would only make things worse.

No doubt just behind his back she was moping. Her stupidly innocent face would be curled up in a pout, her eyes wide and sad, and who knows what other idiotic childish shit. Evander tried to think of her like that at least so that he didn't need to feel bad about what he had done. Slapping her hand away was one thing he probably shouldn't do with an angel so fragile. Speaking too harshly in a certain way was another.
It probably wouldn't have mattered how much he scolded her if he just said the right words in anger. Certain things could break people, and angels weren't too terribly different than people. Ambriel might be an exception though he supposed. She did have inhuman ability to forgive the worst. She even believed that Devils could be saved, which was the most foolish thing that Evander had ever heard before. Surely God couldn't believe such a thing or he wouldn't have put angels in harms way to destroy the devils in the first place.
But there was much that Evander didn't want to hear on that subject, and Ambriel was always the one to tell him it anyway. He had asked in anger why she couldn't be serious and she of course answered in a way that bothered him deeply. Can't be like you. The little splice of what she said was probably what pissed him off the post. Evander didn't want anyone to be like him. The man knew what a big failure of an angel he was and he could make a long list of specific sins to hammer the nail in his coffin.
Still somehow she had determined that what he was asking was for her to be more like him. God had created her to be a bit flaky ditz yeah but, "He didn't create you like that to get killed." Evander muttered as much bitterly and, he assumed, too softly for the angel to hear. It made him furious any time she said something like God did things according to how he wanted. It was obvious by now that God wasn't perfect to Evander or else he would create perfect beings, perfect worlds, and no one would ever have to die.
"Hard to give something a chance when it only wants to destroy," He commented. The very concept that he should give devils a chance when they proved over and over again that they only wanted to lay waste to the city and the world was just laughable. Evander figured that after Ambriel first came face-to-face with her first ruthless bloodthirsty devil it might change her mind, but until then she would go on thinking that even those beasts had a chance of redemption. The arc-angel would be happy if things could just drop at that.
Of course he still had to attend to the fact that Ambriel had just apologized in a much more serious way. Even with his back still turned Evander could just hear how serious and sincere she was being. It was uncomfortable just listening like that. Evander wasn't even sure what he wanted to hear, or what would make him feel better about things. Still, he sort of wished it was a simple as still being pissed off that his foot was just shot.
"I know that you don't try to make me mad," He started somewhat unsteadily, "But like if it was a fucking Olympic sport you'd win or whatever." It would have been nice if he could just leave it at that, but there was still more that he needed to say. Ambriel needed to really know what was going through his head no matter how uncomfortable or painful it was going to be. Sometimes Evander wished that angels had the ability to become invisible or something like that so he could hide the discomfort in his seat.
It was time to say what he really needed to though, no more messing around. With a deep breath the man said, "It's not like I'm asking you to be some tough vengeful angel. I don't want you to get in fights. The very thought of you getting into one of the serious brawls here makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I just need you to fucking protect yourself. I need you not to fall asleep on a killing ground. I need you to be able to have a last ditch defense just in case the worst happens. It's just..." He trailed off again, something that he was starting to do often. Evander didn't want to say that he was worried about her. That sounded too pathetic to him.

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: it's up to you to bring the gun. ) Ambriel frowned, her strawberry lips pulling down. Evander was so very serious. The pink-haired angel rested her forehead on her knees, trying her hardest to listen to what the other angel was saying. She had to take everything seriously right now or risk another blow up from him. Even if it was hard for her to understand what the other angel meant.
"I won't get killed..." Her voice was soft, almost pleading. Iris bit her lip and pulled her hands out from underneath her. "I'll stay out of the fighting." Her place was in the hospital anyway. The young angel kept her sky blue eyes trained on the back of Evander's head.
For some reason, it seemed like the head angel was worried about her. He told her he didn't want her to fight, he didn't like the thought of her getting in a brawl. And she wasn't suppose to fall asleep in open places anymore.
Glancing back at the fountain, which still sparkled with sunlight, Iris sighed. No more naps in the sun for her. "I'll try not to be so silly anymore, Evander. I really will. I don't want you to worry." She unwrapped her arms from her knees, looking a little lost. Sometime during his speech, she had hugged her knees to her chest and now her toes were starting to tingle. Gracefully, Iris pushed herself to her feet
Brushing herself off, she turned to look at the fountain and away from Evander. Some weird intuition told her that the other angel wouldn't appreciate the stare of her innocent blue eyes at the moment. Instead, she pulled the tie out of her bubblegum hair. Her little scuffle with the other angel had messed it up. With the long ease of practice, she pulled her ridiculously long pink hair into a ponytail and adjusted the flower clip.
As she did so, she noticed one of her dangling bead earrings had fallen off during her swim. Without a second though, Iris strolled over to the fountain and sat on the rim. Her pretty blue eyes scanned the rippling surface of the water intently. It didn't occur to her that the weird tight emotion in her chest was unhappiness and that she was avoiding looking at Evander. The silly angel just told herself she wanted her earring. Fancy that, an angel of truth lying to herself.

When he heard the girl mutter that she was going to stay out of the fighting he knew pretty positively that he was going to have to watch her like a hawk. Even if the girl was saying she had every intention of staying out of the fighting he knew her nature would lead her out of HQ and that meant that she would be in danger's way. Everywhere was just a devil away from being a war zone, but Ambriel probably didn't realize that at all.
Evander still wasn't sure what it was he could do to prevent her from getting hurt short of stalking her. Spending that much time around her would be hard for the angel though because he wasn't exactly tempered to spend time with angels like her. It sounded like it would be more of a baby-sitting gig. But then the idea came to mind, if there was going to have to be someone baby-sitting the angel then who said it had to be him? Later he would have to find another angel who he trusted enough to protect her. Hopefully someone she could be friends with so she didn't realize Evander didn't trust her.
"I don't want you to worry." Hearing Ambriel say such a thing made Evander soften a little. He knew she didn't want to, he knew she couldn't help what she did, but it was still hard on him. Evander wasn't the picture perfect angel and he sure as fuck didn't know how to be anymore. It felt like he had lost his childhood innocence and there was no chance of recovering it. There was too much death for silliness like innocence in Evander's mind.
"Whoa whoa whoa, now," Evander started, trying to form his characteristic smirk as he turned around. By the time he had turned to face her she had turned away from him. Interesting, he thought silently. "No one ever said I was worried. Let's not get all mushy here yeah?" The man crossed his arms and rolled his eyes, though the effort was lost on the other angel who decided to turn her back. He wondered why she would do such a thing as he watched her sit at the edge of the fountain silently.
Could it be that she was upset with him? Was he too harsh this time? The thought really unsettled Evander because he didn't really know how to be forgiven anymore. These days if someone was pissed at him he just let them be pissed for as long as they wanted. Apologizing was uncomfortable and not something that someone like Evander should so as far as he was concerned. Focusing on Ambriel he noticed that one of her earrings had fallen out in the fountain. Silly girl.
But she was just a silly innocent child in Evander's eyes and if that was how she was going to be he'd have to play her game for a bit. Very uncomfortable idea, but if it would make her stop seeming so upset it would be worth it. Taking a deep breath he said, "Oh looks like you lost an earring." Determined look on his face he geared up then just started full-out running towards the fountain. A flap of the wings assisting his jump and barreled straight into the water making a rather large splash.
"Got it!" He said with a cliche and triumphant pose, eying Ambriel to see if she smiled even though he most liked just resoaked her.

GOMAKEYOURNEXTCHOICEBEYOURBESTCHOICE. ( tags: evander fray ! ) ( music: i'll do anything by jason mraz ) ( notes: oh look, notes. ) He... What... But... That's... Huh?
Ambriel sat on the rim of the fountain, her jaw dropped and her robin-egg eyes wide. Evander had... what? Water dripped from her bubblegum ponytail and the white sundress was plastered to her petite frame, "Evander..." Iris gave him a strange sort of look, "You are wet now."
The angel said it slowly, like Evander might have lost his mind. To Iris, it really seemed like he had. Evander had lost his mind and done something silly. He never did anything this silly so it was... odd, to say the least.
Iris tucked a smile behind her hand as she reached for the earring with the other. The gesture was wasted as her overly expressive blue eyes smiled as well. She just wasn't very good at not being amused, "Thank you for getting my earring. I really like this pair." So Evander had gone crazy. Maybe new, insane Evander would be more fun?
Ambriel laughed a little at her own thought, amused by the idea of a playful Evander. Pleased, she stuck the dangling piece of jewelery back into her ear. It didn't occur to her that dangling jewelery was impractical for an angel in Eden. Impractical things were Iris' specialty.
Iris glanced down at her dress, which had just begun to dry... before Evander had drenched her again. Now there was really no hope for it. Even the pink-haired angel's flower clip was beginning to droop. Though, by the happy look in Ambriel's blue gaze, she could really not care less.
